Relationship will always bring them back ala the prodigal son--rules will not.

Yep, Jamberry, I have found the same thing. I think God sees more room for growth and puts a bug in my ear about RDI!

Poohder, I think the Ingalls are a wonderful model for us. I think they were Charlotte Mason parents even before there was such a thing! IMHO, Little House in the Big Woods is such a primer for early childhood development! :-)

Thanks for reading, DianeG. I hope you can find some time to get yours going, too!

Yeah, Queen Mum, does saying "Shut the [expletive] door!" through gritted teeth count as warm and friendly? Actually, it is DAVID that forced me to become warm and friendly. With natural rule-breakers, you have to work on a warm relationship or all is lost. They are willing to take the consequences if they are set on doing something. Win their hearts first and then work on why the essential rules are important.walkinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05046468024103932112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35650510.post-48928281050825363082007-11-10T11:28:00.000-05:002007-11-10T11:28:00.000-05:00I can't wait to read chapter 2 now. The thing is....I can't wait to read chapter 2 now. The thing is...it is NOT obvious to many a parent- the warm and kind thing. Truly to most I think it is NOT obvious. The present 'way of parenting' among Christians and those who are not (in the US) is to cry it out, punitive punishment etc etc.. I wonder if I would have followed the trend had God not given me Andrew.Prince Andrew and the Queen Mumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08876789726311010657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35650510.post-27251127526310244472007-11-09T12:50:00.000-05:002007-11-09T12:50:00.000-05:00I love your comparisons to CM. I always think about Caroline Ingalls, from the Little House books. She always gave me a warm feeling when I read those books as a child, thus the name of my daughter!! They are still my favorite books. Who knew we would be
connecting her and guided participation and autism. God knows!poohderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16850097213864424870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35650510.post-29473024140439432952007-11-09T09:38:00.000-05:002007-11-09T09:38:00.000-05:00You know, that's what kicks me in the butt everyti...You know, that's what kicks me in the butt everytime, about parenting in general and about RDI. Here I am trying to grow my kids, and yet, I have so much growing to do myself, so much self control to learn, so much connection to develop on my own end. So often I have to thank God for autism, because through it, He's also growing ME. And He is always patient and long-suffering.
Thanks for the posts, Tammy!!JamBerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10100173458111104820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35650510.post-38369825433804024882007-11-09T09:05:00.000-05:002007-11-09T09:05:00.000-05:00What a great post! I strongly agree "warmth and clear expectations drive competence."

If can grasp the importance of relationship while teaching our children then we can grasp the importance of our relationship with God as we learn.

Too many time the focus is on rules instead of relationship. Expecting obedience without the motivating love.

Thanks for sharing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
