AUT-2B-HOME IN CAROLINA ~ Teaching our twenty-five-year-old daughter with autism and aphasia, who is still learning about God, the world, and its people with a little help from Charlotte Mason
Hmmm. I wonder . . . do you think that the rate of verbal language growth has increased in the last six months? And if it has, do you think it's related to RDI progress during that time? That perhaps the socio-cognitive aspects of RDI are enhancing the language development as well? NOT that the language would develop without the Association Method, because RDI is not geared towards language disorders specifically like aphasia. But just that the motivation to experience share is working cooperatively with the language therapy? Hmmm. . .
I have noticed an uptick in declarative language that is not necessarily focused on verbal stims. Without any prompting or increased interest from me, Pamela now will point out interesting things that she sees or tells me something she plans to do. So, I do think that she is developing a desire to share, which motivates her to apply what she is learning in the association method. Pamela often speaks in power words still, but she is able to think in these language structures because she writes her autobiography (an ongoing self-driven project) in complete sentences.
Wow! What progress! In language, detail, even artwork! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the language. It has grown so much, even in the past six months!
